Story
Raphy is the heart and soul of our family and is much loved by family and friends. As a three-month old baby in a 15-year-old body he needs a lot of care. His diagnosis of lissencephaly causes him to have nasty seizures and need support 24 hours a day.
That's where Shooting Star Children's Hospices comes in. For a limited number of nights each year children like Raphy can go to stay in their lovely Guildford setting for a break. When there Raphy is given loving care and attention by the wonderful staff and is able to enjoy all the activities provided, including trampolining and, his favourite, swimming! The staff are expert at looking after children with special and complex needs and so when Raphy stays there everyone in the family knows he's in the best of hands and can relax.
The Covid pandemic has meant that Shooting Star has not been able to open its charity shops (and some have closed permanently) or gain sponsorship funds through the London Marathon and other big events and they are desperately in need of funds. So, 'Amanda and Karen's Super Sprint Triathlon' is aiming to give a little help and we would love it if you felt you could support them and sponsor us.
Our planned route is by bike from Clapham to Hampton Court Lido (17.7 km) a 400-metre swim at the lido (10 lengths) and 2.5km run around Bushy Park. We hope to complete this on Sunday 16th May before collapsing at the pub!
