Story
Level Water provides bespoke, one-to-one swimming lessons for children with physical and sensory disabilities. Once each child has learnt to swim 15m front crawl and backstroke, they can be safe and independent in the water, and can join group swimming lessons. But it's not just about swimming. Through developing independence in the water, and being able to join mainstream classes, each child develops confidence, self-esteem and resilience. If we can help to give children physical, social and emotional confidence through sport, we can change their trajectory in life.
I signed up for this swim challenge back in early January. My aim was to work on my stroke efficiency, technique and speed until early June when the endurance training would set in for real. However, Covid-19 had other plans and my training was cut abruptly with my last session being on March 18th. Finally back in the pool on the 31st July I had 15 weeks to complete a 20 week training programme which assumes an intermediate level of swimming fitness! Needless to say the first 2 weeks back in the pool were painful and demoralising but I've stuck with it and have now completed 43 km of training in 3 1/2 weeks. The challenge I now face is that each training session is limited to 1 hour and the 10km is likely to take me 4 hours! So I am aiming to swim almost every day....
