Story
IN MEMORY OF CHRISTINE MARTIN
I am taking on the Moonlight Walk 2021 for St John's Hospice and have pledged to personally raise a minimum of £35.
I lost my beautiful mum back in June (2019). She had secondary metastatic breast cancer that appeared very suddenly, and within three short months of the cancer returning and being found, she passed away at home with her family surrounding her – exactly how she had wanted it to be. All this was handled by the amazing staff at St John's Hospice, and we owe them the world for the care and compassion they showed both mum and us - her family- during this traumatic time.
Me and my mum were very close. I am the youngest of three and, admittedly, the most timid, shy and emotional. I have always had severe anxiety and confidence issues, and mum had always been my cheerleader; enrolling me in Irish dancing classes to boost my confidence, dealing with bullies and taking issues up with teachers who simply didn’t understand that my shyness wasn’t just something I could get over. She was fiercely protective over me, and thus I called her my mama bear. You didn’t mess with me – or you got the full wrath of her.
This is just one way I can help give back to the incredible staff of the hospice and show just how much their services meant to us all.
How can your donation help? £2 buys a lovely cup of tea and biscuits for a visiting relative or patient. £5 could buy a simple hand-held fan to keep a patient cool and comfortable£10 could help buy craft materials for Hospice patients staying on the ward to use
