Karen Hamer is raising money for Alzheimer's Society

Karen's Klassathon · 28 October 2022

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

What am I doing? From 28 to 30 October I am going to attend as many fitness classes at David Lloyd as possible.  This will include: Ign1te, Blaze, Cyclone, Rhythm, Battlebox, Bodypump, Synergy and for some calm Spirit.

Why? In a word “Margaret”!

Who? Our mum, my children´s grandma, my dad’s wife, my aunt’s sister and much loved friend.

Mum has end stage Alzheimer´s. She is in a care home, sadly spending much of the last few years without visitors due to Covid, including her 80th Birthday. I have nothing but thanks and admiration for those who cared for her and continue to do so.  She is now 82!

We have experienced first-hand the ravages, joys and moments of hilarity this disease can bring. The Alzheimer’s Society was instrumental in helping my father cope with the onset of mum’s illness. Sadly, many of us are touched by those living and dying with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

You can follow my progress both training and during the Klassathon on Facebook & Instagram search for Karens.Klassathon

Please come and join me for a class during 28 to 30 October, I'll need all the encouragement and support I can get!!

Thank you
for reading my story, and a huge thank you for your support, also thank you to David Lloyd, Hatfield for their enthusiasm and support.
