The Club provides a safe and comfortable Day Centre for those living with Alzheimers and Dementia. The Club aims to give respite and support to Carers and Relatives of the Clients attending the Centre.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.  Myself and Tracey Stutt are fundraising for The October Club in Wantage, a day centre for people suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia.  This fundraising is very personal for us both as Tracey's father and my grandmother both suffered and died from this terrible disease.

The October Club provides a safe and comfortable Day Centre where clients are cared for with understanding and dignity, and provides brief respite and support for carers and relatives. The Club currently opens 3 days a week but they would like to open 5 days.

Tracey and I will be running various  events throughout 2014 and into 2015 as well as volunteering and supporting the Club in its own fundraising events.

In January 2015, I will leave the UK to start my trek to Bwindi "The Impenetrable Forest" in Uganda's mountainous far southwestern tip for which I hope to boost our fundraising.  During the trek, I will climb Mount Sabinyo 3,645m, one of the region's inactive volcanoes as well as traverse Lake Mutanda in a dug-out canoe.  Each day I will trek for between 5 and 9 hours depending on the terraine.  Whilst not actually participating in the trek, Tracey will be providing much needed pre and post massage and encouragement!

I've started on my fitness programme and will be doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in September 2014.

Please do make a donation - however small, and help us to help The October Club achieve their target in as short amount of time as possible.  We are extremely lucky to have this very special facility in Wantage and enabling them to open 5 days a week will mean that they are able to help more clients and their families.
