Story

Hi,

thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.

2015 has been a strange year for me, one with many highs and lows and sadly no trek for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to do an official Macmillan trek in 2016, so instead I will be tackling Mt Fuji off my own back and doing a small bit of fundraising for a good cause :)

The trek will take 2 days. The first day will be an early start, leaving Tokyo at 6:00am to head to the Mt Fuji Subashiri 5th Station. From there it will be a 7-8 hour trek up the mountain to an overnight stay in a mountain hut at 3,400m. This hut will be 1.6 square meters of space per person, I don't expect to get much sleep!

Second day will be a 1:00am wake-up call to have breakfast and head up to the summit (3,776m) to hopefully see the sunrise. We'll then have an hour to reach the 8 peaks of Mt Fuji and then trek back down the mountain. Total walking time for the day will be 8-9 hours.

Whilst this will be one of the shortest treks I have ever done I don't expect it to be easy. There will be a lot of steep, loose rocks/scree sections - especially on the way down (which is what I hate the most). There won't be much time to acclimatise, even though this isn't a high peak I will still feel the affects of altitude at 3,400m. Plus, the chance of rain is 50% and there's likely to be snow/ice about - things I REALLY hate when trekking....

This should be a challenging but amazing experience and one I'd like to raise some money for Macmillan. As always and forevermore, my treks will be in memory of my Grandparents who I miss every day and wish they were still here to share in all my adventures.
