Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year on the 25th of July I will be running the British 10K to raise money for Penniwells Riding Centre for the Disabled. Run by a team of dedicated volunteers, Penniwells is a very special charity that quietly makes a difference, enriching the lives of disabled adults and children across the capital, by providing therapy through horses. Penniwells believes that every disabled child should have the opportunity to achieve their own personal goals, whether that is riding without a guide, making their first jump, or even competing at a national level.

The bond that the riders can form with their horses is incredible, and they can build up an empathy with the ponies. The horses at Penniwells are so giving- they are kind and gentle creatures who understand people with their disabilities, know what they can and can’t do and help them learn. As a rider and volunteer at Penniwells, I have been able to gain first-hand experience of the life-changing activities this centre carries out. Growing up profoundly deaf, I have often experienced difficulties communicating in a conventional way.  Riding and interacting with the horses at Penniwells has given me a newfound sense of confidence and independence.

During this very difficult time, the Penniwells team have been working incredibly hard to keep this charity going and are in desperate need of financial support from the community after they had to shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. The impact this has had on some of the riders who gain so much from attending the sessions is huge, both physically and mentally.  By supporting them, you will be helping to ensure that they can keep their doors open to deliver their life changing activities- which cannot be accessed anywhere else.
