Story
Since Karl had his strokes in 2018, life has not been the same and he has had to give up so much of what he loved. Different Strokes have supported us as a family in so many different ways and Karl is now proud to be an ambassador for the charity, and an online facilitator for a support group.
Since retirement from the Police in January, Karl has been looking for another challenge. Last year he ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon, but this year he wanted to do something different so we both signed up for the Thames Bridges Trek (25km, 16 bridges) in September 2022. The following day, Ruth is 'free-fall' abseiling down the London Orbital sculpture at the Olympic Park.
We are doing both of these challenges to raise money for Different Strokes to help them to continue to support young stroke survivors and their families.
We would be so grateful if you could sponsor us, however big or small, and help us to continue to support Different Strokes.
Thank you so much,
Ruth & Karl xx
About Different Strokes: Every year 100,000 people have a stroke and a 1/4 of these people are under the age of 65. That's 25,000 younger people whose lives are changed in an instant. Stroke is also the single biggest cause of disability in the UK, but it's not always the visible disabilities that stroke survivors have to contend with, debilitating fatigue, cognitive problems and personality changes can also be a lifelong challenge, preventing them from returning to work or bringing up a young family. Different Strokes empowers younger survivors to reclaim their lives and process what has happened to them.
