We bring people together to build generational change.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

In January of 2015, I volunteered with an organisation called 'volunteer Uganda', a nonprofit organisation allowing volunteers from the UK to travel to Uganda to teach in schools or coach football.
Once I arrived, I was responsible for teaching English, Maths & Science to a P4 class which consisted of over 60 pupils between the age of 10-16.

My time in Uganda left a huge impact on me & since then, I've always been looking for different ways of getting involved with other voluntary organisations based overseas.

This is where VSO & ICS come into the picture.
Two years later & I'm proud to say that I've been accepted to volunteer for 12 weeks in Bangladesh on a governance project with VSO.

Who is VSO & ICS?

VSO works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. The volunteers' skills, knowledge, & sheer enthusiasm make the lasting and far-reaching change in the world's poorest communities.

ICS is a development program that brings together young people from the UK & developing countries to volunteer in some of the poorest communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Uk volunteers work side-by-side with local volunteers in developing countries, staying with host families in the local community.

ICS isn't a holiday. It's a demanding but hugely rewarding. It's a great opportunity for personal development, a stepping stone to future careers and a chance to make your world a better place.

The program is led by VSO in partnership with a hand-picked group of respected development organisations. They each offer structured support and training to help and guide you before, during & after your overseas placement.

Why am I fundraising?

I’m fundraising in support of all VSO funded projects, which benefit around 2 million people every year. By donating to my page you are not paying for just one placement, you are supporting all of VSO’s vital work, enabling them to continue to change the world through the power of volunteering.

VSO represents a significant investment by the UK government in young people aged 18-25. DFID (Department for International Development) has chosen to fully fund VSO placements because they believe in the power of young people to bring about positive change in some of the poorest communities around the world.

The government is funding my placement but I'm asking for additional funds on JustGiving?

In order to be fully funded by VSO, I have to attend training days, actively share my experience with my local community, complete an action at home after the volunteering experience and most importantly, prove I am committed to this project. By fundraising £800, I am helping VSO raise awareness alongside the charities it works with as well as showing to them a real commitment to the program.

I am not asking for your help in order to pay for a gap year experience or an extended holiday. The money you are contributing goes straight to VSO, helping all of VSO's vital work & through the power of volunteering, you are supporting all of VSO’s vital work, helping them in the continuation of changing the world, work with charities around the world that are actively impacting the life of people living in areas of poverty in developing countries.

Thank you for reading and for any donation you are able to make. It's greatly appreciated & you should be proud knowing that your contribution is going towards a global mission.

Thankyou!
