4x4x48. Running 4miles, every 4hrs, for 48hrs. (48mi/77km in two days) · 12 February 2021

Cohere is transforming communities by transferring power within the response to refugee crises. To make the most effective and sustainable change, we work closely together with local refugee-led organisations (RLOs), who know exactly what's needed to address the challenges their communities face.

Story

Within my family and friends I am known as being a bit of a fitness freak. I love anything to do with endurance and training.

Starting on Friday, 12th February, I will be doing the 4x4x48 endurance challenge. I will be running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours. So, a total of 48 miles or 77km within the two days. That is just shy of two full marathons. I will be raising money for a learning centre/school in the Imvepi Refugee Settlement in north Uganda, called "Imvepi Learning Centre for Refugees". The majority of the refugees are from South Sudan, having fled due to conflict. There are also many Congolese at the Camp. All in desperate need of good education.

I came across the 4x4x48 challenge not long ago and I immediately wanted to do it. It was invented by an ex-Navy Seal, called David Goggins. Doing such a challenge is very fulfilling, however being able to raise money and awareness for people in desperate need, while doing such a challenge is for me, the pinnacle of fulfilment.

Donations will go to Xavier Project, who will then channel the money directly to the Imvepi Learning Centre for Refugees. The money donated will be used to finance materials such as books, computers, desks, bikes etc. (bikes are used to transport learning accessories like books around the camp). Books are one of, if not the most important learning material. Now, in the times of COVID, remote learning has become the new-normal. This means the transport of materials such as books around the camp has become one of the cornerstones in allowing refugees to carry on with their education. Thus, for example, bikes are very much needed.

I am extremely committed to making a purposeful impact on the lives of these refugees, so that they can lead fulfilled lives.
