Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 4th September 2014 my mum was diagnosed with AML, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. I think she already knew, probably before the doctors, as her white blood cell count had been low for some time. By the time she received treatment she was relieved for any help. She said "I haven't cried yet and I'm not going to". There were moments, like set backs, when Mum did shed a tear, but usually when we weren't around to see. I have her friends, Heather and Thelma, to thank for supporting her through those moments. Throughout most of her treatment she kept cheerful and was incredibly brave. She didn't even flinch when a doctor gave her a bone marrow biopsy. Everywhere she went, she made friends with fellow patients, their visitors and especially hospital staff.
She was strong, the strongest member of her family, the big sister who no one can believe has gone. Just after Christmas Mum was elated to be told she was in remission but she never regained her health. Finally she was given another blood test which revealed the disease had returned and by the time a bed was ready, it was too late to treat her. She died just 8 days after being told the disease had returned.
