Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

We did it! Julian without a wetsuit (it is not julian in the photo above but our fellow swimmer Stephen!) and me with in just over 1 hour 30 mins. A fantastic achievement and we loved most of it.. Thankyou for all your support. We hope to reach £6,000 fundraising for Aspire.x

Our swim is on.. 8 am tomorrow we set off.. help.. x

Unfortunately, our swim had to be postponed due to bad weather on 24 th .. It has been rescheduled for Saturday 22nd October .. We shall keep you posted (fingers crossed for a calm day) and huge thanks for all your sponsorship.. X

Next Saturday, 24th September 2016, (We) Julian and Kat are planning to swim from Fort Gilkicker in Gosport across to Ryde on the Isle of Wight (the widest bit of the Solent!). Julian is swimming without a wetsuit.. Kat is not quite so mad or brave. Neither of us have swum in the Channel before and it is a little bit scarey as we will be dodging ferries, super tankers, yachts, ribs etc.. we do luckily have our very own caneoist accompanying each of us so we can be more easily spotted! As the crow flies, the distance is 2.95 miles. There are only 12 of us doing this swim and it could take anytime between one and a half and two and a half hours depending on tides and more importantly swimming in a straight line! Help..

We are raising money for Aspire, an amazing national  charity which provides practical help to people with spinal cord injury. See below for an example of how Aspire can tranform the lives of normal people..

John was spinal cord injured in a work accident in 2009. With a young family, he was determined to get back to work and to being a Dad. But hopes of independence were dashed when the NHS gave him a wheelchair so big and heavy that he couldn’t even get out of the house. Ian applied for an Aspire Grant, and was awarded funding for a lightweight wheelchair. John says ‘The difference this new chair has made is unbelievable, for the first time since my accident, I am totally independent again.’

To someone like John, Aspire’s help means the world. Please sponsor us today, and help Aspire to help more spinal cord injured people to move from injury to independence.’

We know you all have huge number of demands for sponsorship so any amount however small will be hugely appreciated.
