I lost my dad to cancer in November. I lost him to a brain tumour to be precise. 375 days from the day they said ‘Space Occupying Lesion’ to the day we said our final goodbye. 75% of people with Glioblstoma don’t get to a year. We were lucky to have so much time and simultaneously we cannot escape the feeling that we were robbed.
My dad was an absolute gem and my greatest ally. He was the most dependable man with a very kind and gentle nature. I poured my heart into his care over the past 12 months and in the stillness of the last few days I find myself at sea.
Enter stage left @dee_from_the_sea, fresh from a tour in The Lebanon and already splashing in the Irish Sea raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society. The OT part of my brain is craving ritual and routine. So I'm joining Dee for 20 days of cold water swimming this December. I’m hoping for 20 different locations but we’ll see if covid plays ball. Erris (the dog) will be joining me too!
The Irish Cancer Society have been a great support to us over the past year - an excellent source of information and free counseling when we were feeling lost and alone. I'd love to give back to them and would be grateful if you would also consider donating and if you'd like to join me for a dip in remembrance of my dearest Dad that would also be pretty swell!
