The St George’s School Ethiopia Alpine Challenge · 2 October 2022

24 intrepid explorers are embarking on the St. George's School, Ethiopia Alpine Challenge, 3 days hiking on remote mountain trails in the Val de Montjoie region of the French Alps, hiking to altitudes almost double the height of Ben Nevis.

Story

So those of you that know me well will know this is COMPLETELY out of my comfort zone. BUT I have some very fashionable boots and walking poles which I am hoping will get me moving. I will give it my all to get up those mountains in aid of an amazing charity where funds are desperately needed to fund a school for children who, without this opportunity, would likely leave school at a very young age. As a mother of two girls, it is this that shocks me –if they don’t leave at age 8 they traditionally drop out when menstruation begins – 1/3 of Amhara girls are married by the age of 15.

St George's aims to empower girls to seek employment and encourages them to apply for jobs that they might otherwise have not been perceived as possible. Girls attendance rates are now very slightly higher than that of boys, and the star pupil this year, who broke all school records with her examination results, is female.

Please help me help them and this fantastic charity which goes a long way to offer what we take for granted to those in need.

Thanks so much for your support.
