Story

Thanks for checking out my page.

After being inspired by Emmy Coates from my school, whom cycled from London to Copenhagen with stage 4 cancer I decided that now was the right time to take on another challenge myself!  Emmy won a 'Pride of Britain' and 'Justgiving' award and I want to do more to fundraise for this horrible disease in her memory.  In addition, I have felt even more compelled to take on such a challenge and to set the sky as the limit after Kiko Matthews (also from our school) whom recently smashed a rowing world record, rowing from Gran Canaria to Barbados. Kiko even took a week off the previous world record!  Not only this but she also acheived this only 7 months after having a second brain tumour removed.

I wish to contribute in a small way to enhancing cancer treatments in Wales.  In addition, improve access to chemotherapy drugs, which for certain cancers are available in England but not in Wales.  A chemotherapy drug alone can cost £100,000 a year per person and that is considered cheap.

I will be cycling 600km from San Francisco to Los Angeles in six days with Becky James and Shane Williams at the helm as part of an excersion.  Hopefuly, I won't be lagging too far behind!

Velindre Cancer Centre has been providing care, support and treatment to cancer patients and their families since 1956.  It is the Wales equivalent of the leading cancer hospital in England and the UK, The Royal Marsden (private/NHS).

Velindre is the premier provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales. Recent evidence tells us that approximately 40% of patients with cancer would benefit from radiotherapy treatment, and advances at Velindre means that it can be delivered with remarkable precision.

The incidence of cancer is rising by 1% each year. By 2020 one in two people will be affected by cancer in Wales. People in Wales living with cancer will increase by 80% between 2010 and 2030.

However cancer survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years, meaning that more and more people in Wales are surviving cancer because of better treatments and earlier detection.

Thank you so much for checking out my page, you are awesome anyway but you would be even more so if you were to spare a few pennies for a very worthwhile cause.
