Story

Jessica is the sweetest, kindest two-year-old. She loves animals and adores all things Peppa Pig-related. In April 2021 she was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer that has a 40-50% chance of long-term survival at diagnosis. Her parents, Nathan and Anisa are currently fundraising for potentially lifesaving treatment, either to get their daughter into remission or to try and keep the cancer away if her frontline treatment does go to plan. This could cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.

As many of you know i have been a childrens nurse for 13 years and in that time i have come across some amazing children and families. I have also seen first hand how charities do amazing work to support these children and their families in what can sometimes be their darkest times.

My job makes me appreciate how lucky i am to be alive and to never take for granted my health, so i like to push my body to the max whenever i can! Therefore for my latest challenge i shall be joining a group of 10 other people to carry out the national three peak challenge. This involves climing and descending the three biggest peaks in Scotland, Wales and England, and we plan to do this in as close to 24 hours as we can!! That‘s alot of sweaty induviduals in a mini bus with no time for a shower between peaks! 😷

I have decided to do this for three charities (one for each peak) which i have seen in action myself at work and i am truely aware of the good they do.

Ben Nevis i shall be climing for REACT-

Rapid Effective Assistance for Children with potentially Terminal illness.

Helping children with life-shortening illnesses, React works to give children comfort, dignity and where possible, greater independence. We supply a wide range of equipment from specialist wheelchairs, beds, baths and mobility aids, to essential everyday homecare items like pushchairs and domestic appliances. This may include educational equipment to ensure a child’s developmental needs are met; React Holidays at one of React’s mobile holiday homes; and, funeral expenses and memorial headstones.

Scafell Pike i shall be climbing for Jessica Butler‘s Solving Kids Cancer charity
