Jan's Story
It was the first day of our holiday on the Isle of Wight in early May and we’d been for a short walk. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in Southampton neurosciences intensive care unit (NICU). I’d slipped off a 9-foot sea wall and fallen onto concrete steps below, fracturing my skull, eye socket and spine. The Hampshire Air Ambulance stabilised me on the beach for one and a half hours before transporting me to hospital where I received excellent care.
I am still undergoing therapy at the Sheffield Spinal Cord Injuries Centre but hopefully will be going home on 14th September, four months after the accident. I will be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. The family and I are forever grateful to the air ambulance team for the lifesaving care they gave on the beach that day, which then continued in the NICU at the Wessex Neurosciences Centre for a further 14 days. This is why my son, Russ, is running the Lincoln City Half Marathon on the 18th September 2022 to raise some monies for these fabulous organisations. Please give what you can! We thank you for helping us to thank them.
