Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I'm lucky enough to live in a country where recycling is available to most. Whilst it's not the answer to our waste problem, it certainly plays a crucial role in keeping materials at their highest value instead of being sent to the landfill, the incinerator or even the ocean!
Billions of people in the world currently don’t have any or adequate recycling facilities whilst 40% of the world’s waste – from homes, businesses, agriculture, hospitals and industry – is not collected or treated.
Open dumping and burning of waste causes many serious health problems and pollutes the environment. Open dumps encourage vermin, poison air, land and water, and often result in waste entering the sea and harming marine life.
WasteAid works with low-income communities in poorer parts of the world simple, training them in affordable recycling techniques, creating jobs and keeping plastic out of the oceans, resulting in a cleaner environment and better public health.
They campaign for urgent action to tackle the waste crisis and promote recycling as a tool for global sustainable development. Whilst many organisations work to remove plastic from the oceans, WasteAid is helping to reduce it at source.
To help raise awareness (and because I love a good walk!), I'll be trekking 25km from Putney through the city of London, zigzagging across 16 historic bridges and ending south of the majestic Tower Bridge.
I'd really appreciate any sponsorship you can afford and hopefully we can help bridge the recycling gap!
