Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When one of your best friends’ phones and says “are you up for a challenge?”, I should know to ask more questions before I say “yes”.

Consequently, I’m taking part in a cycle marathon on 31st July,
raising funds for Cycall.

Our team is Nick Cook - a professional independent Circus
performer and entertainer based in Worthing, West Sussex, Trish Murrell – my crazy friend and partner in more crimes than I care to think about, and the fabulous Super Dude, Wynter, Trish and Nick’s son.

Wynter is 11 years old and has Cerebral Palsy and a super hero but he is heading towards another big operation to enable him to have a better quality of life.

At the age of two years old Wynter was diagnosed withCerebral Palsy. In December 2017 Wynter had his right leg lengthened to aid his
mobility and to give him the ability to put his heel down. The results were brilliant, and he learnt to ride a bicycle unaided which we were told he would not be able to do. It was a fantastic and heart-warming moment as he rode off on his own shouting "Look at me!"

As all kids do, they grow, and Wynter is super tall for his age. Because of these growth spurts his hamstrings have now become rock solid
and his knee placements are now in question, so the trips back and forth to the Evalina Hospital in London are beginning again, all in preparation of how to proceed with making his quality of life better.

A few months ago we discovered the fantastic charity, Cycall
Adapted Cycling, who have the most amazing disability bikes that people of all abilities can use for free at Brooklands Park, Worthing. Wynter now struggles to ride his standard bike as it causes him pain due to the lack of support on the seat and his posture.

For Wynter to have his operation, he needs to build up his leg muscles and what could be more fun and perfect for his needs than riding a
disability bicycle around Brooklands. We tried it, we loved it and loved the amazing people, Martine and Rob, who run it.

Shortly after that, Cycall put a shout out for challengers to raise vital funds for them on their Facebook page and our crazy idea was
born… to cycle a marathon around the Brooklands bike track.

Wynter, Trish and I are registered disabled and Trish and I
haven't ridden a bike in many many years and, due to their illnesses, do limited exercise normally.

Trish suffers with Fibromyalgia, Chronic, Fatigue Syndrome,
Asthma to name just a few and is also Autistic with ADHD.

As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2015 which had already spread to my lower spin and sternum. Despite this and being in constant pain we continue to take on mad challenges at regular intervals.

So, all four of us are going to cycle a marathon together,
that's 105 laps of the track each!

Nick has a bespoke 7 foot stilt bike and a 36 inch unicycle which he will be completing the marathon on!

Thank you Cycall for loaning us your amazing bikes for Wynter, Trish and myself to use to make this possible.

This fundraising challenge is about real people, with real life challenges, pulling together to help build Wynter's leg strength before
and after his operation, to aid the charity Cycall to keep providing such a vital community activity and because of a passion for an all-inclusive world where everyone can only see the ability, not the disability.

On the day, the public (that’s you!) can arrive anytime throughout the day and hire a disability bike for just £1 per lap. So you can come along help raise the total and encourage us to keep going through our
challenge!
