Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. I'm running my first (and probably last) marathon up in Edinburgh on Sunday May 23rd 2010. I'm raising money for the Critical Care Unit at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in London which is where a friend and colleague of mine at IIED - Ivan Bond - recently passed away following surgery to remove a tumour on his lung.

This marathon is to help celebrate his memory and raise some money for the Unit. I always told him I'd run one one day so I'm keeping my promise - let's just hope I finish it!

Please give generously - the money goes through Guy's and St Thomas' Charity directly to the Critical Care Unit.

So I now have less than 3 weeks to go. Training is going well. I've completed a fair few races - 20 miles (2hr 52m), 8.2 miles (1hr 03m), 10km (47m) and I'll be doing another 10km next Saturday. So I'm looking good to get under 4 hours but anything can happen on the day so I'm still really nervous.

Injury wise I hurt all the time! I've also had a few problems with my right knee and my left foot (apparently it's cuboid syndrome whatever that is!) but I'm now in the "taper zone" where I run shorter distances, eat lots of food (hoorah), stretch and don't drink alcohol (boo!).

1 week to go and it's all about eating (good) and mental preparation apparantly. My mental preparation currently consists of imagining the beer at the end of 26.2 miles. I haven't quite managed to give up the alcohol but I'm reasoning it that red wine is good for you so it doesn't count.

Too late for anymore hard runs. I've got 10 miles to do Sunday then 2 easy 30min runs next week and quick jog the Saturday before in Edinburgh. I feel quite good but am still nervous about my right knee and whether it is going to behave next Sunday. We will see!
