Running from John O’Groates to Lands end · 15 September 2022

Its prime purpose is to provide appropriate help, medical, financial and otherwise, to current and retired jockeys who are injured, unable to ride or in need.

Story

I’m very excited to be taking on this once in a lifetime challenge of running from John O’Groats at the top of Scotland, down the 1000 miles to Land’s End in Cornwall.

If you had told me 10 years ago I would be taking on this challenge I would never have believed you! At that time I was just coming to the end of my riding career, a period of 7 years where I was privileged to ride 110 fantastic horses, racking up 28wins in point to point and under rules.

To fill this gap, and keep fit, I started running and completed my first marathon in 2016. I realised that long distance running was what I most enjoyed and was best suited to, which led to completing the South Downs Way 100 mile race in 2019 and Thames Path 100 in 2020.

I love to push myself and find out how far I can go, which is one of the main appeals of running the country. I also love to travel and to experience seeing more of Britain on foot is very exciting. As well as the personal challenge, I am keen to use the opportunity to raise money for two charities. The Injured Jockey fund, which has helped many of my friends get back in the saddle and the Mental Health Foundation, which is close to my heart.

I plan on completing at least a marathon distance every day, with one day off each week, which if all goes well would mean around 6 weeks to complete the route. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and any support you can give to either or both charities is hugely appreciated.
