Story
99 years ago, Type 1 Diabetes was a death sentence. On January 11, 2022, we'll celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the first use of insulin to manage diabetes. Without this development and the research behind it, a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis would still be fatal.
Imagine where we could be in another 100 years.
Through family members and friends, I've had a close look at a life with Type 1 Diabetes. It is complicated, challenging, and above all, terrifying. I would do almost anything for a cure. JDRF has been there every step of the way with resources, support, and always searching for a cure. And one day, we will create a world without type 1 diabetes.
In the past, I've worked with JDRF and even had a chance to advocate for government funding on Capitol Hill with them in 2015. So, when I decided to run the London Half Marathon, I knew I had to run for JDRF in advance of the 100 year anniversary of insulin. I was thrilled when I was offered a spot on their team!
I've been running on and off for about 7 years, but only started to really enjoy it these past 3 years. I used to say "I'll do anything for charity - except run!" Well, that didn't exactly go according to plan.
Over the next four months, I'll be running three times a week and will work my way up from running 5 mi / 8 km (what I run now) to running 13.1 mi / 21 km in one go for race day. This is my first half marathon and I'm so excited to get started! Keep up to date with my training through my Instagram stories where I'll be posting about my preparation and runs. I'll post the highlights on Facebook and will send out an email before race day to all emails I have!
And you'll get some perks for supporting me!
For any donation $10 and up, I'll send out a personalized thank you card after the race thanking you for your support for JDRF and for me! (Email me at kaitee232@gmail.com with your address, I'll ship to America or Europe!)
If you donate and live in London, I'll run by your house at some point before the race to do a run/wave by! (Email me to set up)
And there might be more! We'll see what I come up with :)
Thank you for your support!
