On Sunday we’re going to do a number of things as part of the 2.6 challenge to raise some much needed funds for a local charity providing counselling services. It’s really just a bit of fun for us but any funds we raise will go towards helping provide a much needed local service.
Those of us known to run will do at least 2.6 miles in under 26 minutes, followed by a 2.6 minute plank, 26 squats, 26 star jumps Joe Wicks style (including swearing at the tv!), Holly & Rosie will do 26 cartwheels, we’ll all attempt to hula hoop 26 times and we’ll finish off with a family bike ride for over 2.6 miles. Rosie will read 26 chapters of her book & Holly is going to do 2 & 6 magic tricks. The day may end with 2.6 drinks (not sure on measurement yet!) of wine / gin / beer by those of us over 18 to finish things off nicely!!
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events.
The Virgin Money London Marathon alone, which should have taken place on Sunday 26 April, is the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event, which raised more than £66.4 million for thousands of charities in 2019.
Many of these charities have had to reduce or stop services at a time when vulnerable members of society need them most; thousands of staff have been placed on furlough and many charities will not survive the next few months.
