Story
Sepsis Research are a registered Scottish Charity SC049399 & we are the UK’s only Sepsis Research Charity. Every four hours Sepsis kills someone in the UK. It accounts for over 52,000 deaths in the UK every year, that's more than breast and bowel cancer combined. We don't understand enough about sepsis and the biological processes that can lead to serious illness or even death. That is why we urgently need to increase funding for research, to understand the processes and design effective treatments for sepsis, to help save lives.
It is an odd thing to shave off all one's hair to raise money for charity. I wanted to do this back in 1989 to raise money for my art graduation show but it never happened because someone else beat me to it and I've never let my hair get long enough again until lockdown.
A couple of years ago our son was rushed to the Brighton's children hospital on Christmas Eve with what turned out to be Sepsis. It happened very quickly and we were so grateful for the expertise and care he received from the paramedic Nora, the nurses, doctors and biochemists in order to save his life.
Now feels like the right opportunity to do something to help raise funds for research in Sepsis. The charity I have chosen have also been asked to help find answers to fight Coronavirus.
