Here at St Kentigern Hospice we offer specialist palliative care for people with life threatening or life limiting illnesses. We focus on the patient's quality of life by controlling symptoms through a holistic approach taking into account their physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs.

Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. Please read on to find out why St Kentigern Hospice is important to me.

St Kentigern Hospice provides end of life care to adult patients across North Wales, including Prestatyn where my mum and dad had lived since 2007. The hospice’s services are completely free to patients and their families.

My mum, Kath, spent a week in St Kentigern’s in January 2012, at a point in her illness where she was finding her symptoms particularly distressing, especially in relation to the pain she was experiencing. She was well cared for and kept as comfortable as possible whilst her medication was adjusted to the correct level, allowing her to return home where she wanted to be for as long as she could. I remember the staff being very kind and welcoming to myself, my dad, my husband and our two young children. St Kentigern’s is a peaceful place in a quiet setting; my mum’s room had lovely views of wild birds and squirrels feeding in the garden, horses in nearby fields, and neighbouring cats passing by from time to time.

We often think of hospices as places where people with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer spend the last days of their lives, but we must remember their other important purpose: helping people to continue living where and how they want to live, as comfortably as possible, for as long as possible.
