Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you may know, I lost my dad on 9th July 2014 to Mesothelioma. Mum cared for him so well and was devastated when he died. Soon after losing him, mum was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. She fought through chemotherapy at the hardest time, and rang the chemotherapy bell at Poole Cancer Centre on 13th April 2015. Sadly, in September 2017, we found out her cancer had returned to her lung. Chemotherapy was not successful this time, but the cancer was not progressing rapidly. However, mum was. She struggled to find any happiness in life without dad, and on 8th July 2018, they were reunited. Those of us left behind have been devastated, but take great comfort in knowing mum is with dad again, where she wants to be.

Thanks to Wessex Cancer Trust, I have been lucky enough to be offered a chance to run the London Marathon on 28th April 2019, just 3 days after what would have been mums 65th birthday. I’m running in memory of mum and dad, and I am running for Wessex Cancer Trust because they are currently supporting me with my loss. Their centre in Chandlers Ford is there when I need it, and I’m having regular counselling with a lovely counsellor at their centre. I didn’t know anywhere like this existed after losing dad, but I am so happy to have found somewhere I can go and talk about everything without judgement.

So many people are impacted by cancer in so many different ways. Wessex Cancer Trust offer emotional and practical support when it’s needed most. I’m proud to be a part of their Marathon team (and slightly terrified).

Now, I have not ran a marathon before so this is a massive challenge for me. Therefore, I’ve enlisted the help of a running coach to get me through it. That’s how serious I am, peeps!

I’ll keep people updated throughout my journey on this page. If you feel able to support me and Wessex Cancer Trust, please do so, and spread the word as far as you wish!
