Gauntlet Games Cardiff 2017 · 22 July 2017 ·

City Hospice is Cardiff's local hospice, providing free consultant led community specialist palliative care to those facing cancer and other life threatening illnesses in Cardiff. We exist to help those suffering from cancer, their families and carers at a most difficult period in their lives.

Story

The Gauntlet Games

The Gauntlet Games is a hilarious obstacle course race where you can run 5k or 10k, taking on giant inflatables, slides, foam, swings, water obstacles and real Gladiators! It will be held at Coedarhydyglyn which was featured in the latest series of BBC's  Sherlock, and is a stunning Estate with rolling hills and panoramic views across West Wales.

I will be taking on the 10k race, which means completing the course twice (eek!) in order to earn every last penny that you donate.

There is also an event festival with different zones including games, kids activities and food and drink. So if you fancy a nice day out and a chance to watch me make a fool of myself, feel free to come and show your support!

George Thomas Hospice

All money raised will be donated to the George Thomas Hospice who provide specialist palliative care to people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, and their families. For the patient this can involve providing advice, financial support, symptom control, day therapy activities  and access to doctor's and nurses. And for the family this can include bereavement services and family counselling.

In 2015-16 the hospice provided care for 918 patients, including 5,245 visits to patients' homes by their nurses and 823 visits to their patients' homes by doctors. All services provided by the hospice are completely free of charge, meaning that they are reliant on raising over £1 million a year to ensure that they never have to turn a patient away.

My dad Stephen Royal, sadly passed away on the 21st March 2010 (aged 56) after courageously battling Esophageal Cancer for 18 months. The George Thomas Hospice provided a great deal of help during that time and I would love to raise some money in order to help them continue their amazing work.

This truly is a worthwhile cause, and any penny you can spare will help other families who find themselves in this unfortunate position.
