Friends of Sussex Hospices is a registered charity run by volunteers. We raise funds to support the running costs of the 13 hospice care providers that serve the adults and children of Sussex.

Story

Thank you so, so much for sponsoring me!

I did it!  I've now completed six marathons.

It wasn't the easiest marathon I've done, due to the heat - 24 degrees - and to my not putting in enough training as a result of a foot injury.  However, it was very uplifting to run - well, mostly walk - around such a beautiful city on a lovely sunny April Sunday.

My time was 6:35:21 and believe it or not, I wasn't last - there were 170 people who finished behind me.  It was quite different to London and Brighton in that there weren't that many charity runners evident
and very few "fun runners" and no rhinos at all.

My nephew, Patrick's time was 5:08:56.  We both came away with a few blisters but otherwise in good shape.

I chatted with some interesting people on the way round.  There was a German lady runner with the words "The 100 Marathon Club" emblazoned on the back of her t-shirt.  I jogged alongside her for a
while and asked if she had really completed 100 marathons. "No" she
said, "I have completed 300 marathons".  When I recovered my speech I asked her if this was her 301st marathon. "No", she said "this will be my 330th".  I then politely asked how old she was and she told me she would be 70 next week!   She looked amazing and an excellent
advertisement for marathon running.

You'll be glad to know that I have no aspirations of doing
330 marathons!

Thank you all so much for sponsoring me and helping to exceed my target  and raise such an enormous sum for our Sussex Hospices -£5,585 including gift aid - it is truly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This will be my sixth marathon and I am thrilled it will be in Paris.  Note that I say I am "doing" not "running" it because I will be walking quite a bit of it, so don't expect to see me anywhere near the front!   I haven't put in the amount of training I would have liked, due to a foot injury I sustained in August last year, but I am confident that I will complete the course.

Friends of Sussex Hospices champions and raises funds for the twelve hospice care providers that support the adults and children of Sussex. The charity is run entirely by volunteers and since it started in 1995 has distributed £1.9 million.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the modern hospice movement by Dame Cicely Saunders. Her vision and work transformed the care of the dying.  Our hospices go the extra mile in providing care, compassion and understanding for patients and their loved ones when they need it most.  They depend heavily on their own communities for funding their running costs.  I think that's worth doing 26.2 miles for.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
