We fund research and provide support to children and adults affected by cancer

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I initially signed up to Paris2Nice in a moment of bravado and perhaps midlife crisis! πŸ€ͺ. Since then, it has grown in to so much more.

I always knew the stats that 1 in 2 of us will be affected by cancer and that you wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy, but the roller coaster of Mum getting a diagnosis of Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer during Covid, and going through her treatment with her, really brought home how terrible  the disease can be.

On the plus side, it also gave me 100 more reasons to admire and love my Mum, and the kids, who already had their suspicions that she was a secret agent (as she is tough and has eyes in the back of her head!) are now fully convinced!

I discovered that many on the Paris2Nice ride have been affected by cancer either directly or indirectly and are raising money for ARC which looks after those affected by cancer. Being 'science-y' (a Physio by trade), I'm naturally drawn to research and finding ways to conquer cancer.  Thankfully, many groundbreaking advances are being made in this area and the future looks positive - but there is no harm raising funds to speed things up a bit!  We have all seen when resources are poured in to research (with Covid vaccines and anti-virals), what progress can be made in a relatively short space of time.

I know there will be friends and family from all over the globe (hopefully!) reading this and even though I have chosen the Irish Cancer Society, any breakthroughs in cancer research will permeate around the globe and benefit us all. Since 2010 the Irish Cancer Society has invested €20 million in to research that has led to hundreds of discoveries and published in international peer reviewed journals, making this knowledge available to researchers worldwide.

I would be eternally grateful if you would be able to donate something to this worthy cause, however small. The target I have to reach is €3k. However, if I raise €5k I pledge to do Mont Ventoux that is an optional extra on Day 4 (21km climb and an elevation of 1,909m!)

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you one an all!  I will be posting up my progress here, but also on Facebook and Instagram (@bodymedireland) if you want to follow my training and on the ride itself! Only 3 weeks to go as I write this πŸ˜¬πŸ™ˆ!
