Caring Matters Now is the only UK charity supporting children and adults affected by Congenital Melanocytic Naevi (CMN) - a genetic condition, consisting of dark brown hairy birthmarks covering up to 80% of the body. The condition has many expressions, some of which can lead to medical complexities

Story

Kathy’s walking challenge - Windsor to Winchester 60 miles and Day 8 of the Caring Matters Now Liverpool to London 25th anniversary trek.

Having celebrated my 60th birthday in April, I wanted to mark 2022 by challenging myself to walk my first long-distance path whilst raising funds for Caring Matters Now, a charity that means a lot to me.

Caring Matters Now is a charity that supports those affected by Congenital Melanocytic Naevus. Please take a look at the links below to read my story and about the exhibition and research mentioned in my story:

From 9 – 12th July, I will be walking the Three Castles Path, a 60-mile route from Windsor Castle to Winchester Castle via Odiham Castle that King John would have travelled at the time of the Magna Carta. It seemed a good choice, especially during the platinum jubilee year!

I will be walking about 15 miles a day, with some family and friends joining me at points along the route. Any local friends who would like to join me for some of the route, do get in touch for more details. Steve is going to be driving me to the start and finish points so there will be spare seats in his car on the last two days.

Day 1: Windsor Castle to Sandhurst (9th July)
Day 2: Sandhurst to Odiham (10th July)
Day 3: Odiham to Upper Wield (11th July)
Day 4: Upper Wield to Winchester (12th July)

Also, Caring Matters Now is celebrating its 25th year and is embarking on an even longer trek in August. The trustees, staff, and supporters will trek the 25-year journey of Caring Matters Now. Each day a team of trekkers will be walking a stretch of the 270-mile journey from Liverpool, the birthplace of Caring Matters Now, to London, where the ground-breaking CMN research lab and patient clinic are based. I will be walking 18 miles on day 8, 14th August, of the trek from Daventry to Northampton. For more information about the CMN trek:

Thank you very much for taking time to read my page and please consider helping me reach my fundraising target for this amazing charity. Please take the time to read more stories on the website about how invaluable the support from CMN has been for so many families, and read the research pages to find out how the charity has helped fund the ongoing research into the condition.

To all those who have already contributed, a massive thank you.
