Story

Three years ago we were heartbroken when our 3 year old son was suddenly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Five months later we were devastated again when his 6 year old sister was also diagnosed.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition. It’s got nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, it just happens. We're still not sure what causes it.

When you have Type 1 diabetes, your immune system attacks the cells in your pancreas that make insulin, so you can't produce any insulin at all.

And we all need insulin to live. It does an essential job. It allows the glucose in our blood to enter our cells and fuel our bodies.

Lola and George need insulin to survive. They get it via an insulin pump or injection before they eat or drink, every time they eat or drink most things.

High blood sugar causes serious long term health problems and dangerous low blood sugar can cause seizures and can even be deadly. It’s a hard and scary balancing act 24/7 to keep blood sugar levels in range as much as possible.

This is a life long condition and currently there is no cure.

JDRF is doing amazing work researching and improving technology making lives easier for those living with type 1 diabetes.

Please, please think about sponsoring me, every £ will help fund a brighter future for my children and the 29,000 other UK children currently battling with this condition.
