This is my story
I am going on an immense trekking journey to India on the 16th October 2018 to the 28th October 2018 to raise £2,800 for St Barnabas Hospice. My journey will start when I fly into Delhi and go on the overnight sleeper to Dharamasla, this is where my challenging trek starts. I am doing an 85km trek over the Himalayan mountain range, ascending though the high passes of the kingdom of Gaddi. Trekking though the rhodendron forests, passing though Hindu settlements and Buddhist monasteries. We will be trekking to nearly the highest point of the Himalayan mountains. I will be sleeping in tents each night, no showers or toilets (hopefully there are lots of bushes to go behind).
You are probably asking yourselves why?
Two and half years ago, out of the blue, I had to have a total hip replacement, I thought I would never be able to walk for miles again. It was a very bad low period in my life. It took me much longer to get over having my hip replaced than I thought it would. I now move forward to December 2017, and how much my life has changed. St Barnabas was then and still is my employer and has been for the last 8 years. They stood by me, and all my lovely team mates helped with my recovery, mentally and physically. They came to see me in hospital, then at my home. Took me out, supported me when I was really low. Then when I came back to work, the support carried on and I just wasn’t left to get on with things. It made me look at what a caring and supportive team they really are. What sort of team I really work with, and how amazing they are with the patients and that I wanted to raise funds to make sure this team work carried on and my way of saying thank you for always being there for me, and for all many different people that pass through the doors St Barnabas Hospice. As St Barnabas Hospice has a team of over 100 nurses, nursing assistants, doctors, consultant’s and other care staff workers. This team help with the running of the In-Patient unit, the Day Hospice and going out into the community to support more people with end of life care.
