Skydive for The Bubble Foundation · 29 July 2022

We support Ward 3 at The Great North Children's Hospital, where families live in a protective bubble. Whether it’s funding cutting-edge research, providing emotional and practical support for families, or ensuring children can still be children, everything we do is centred around care and hope.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am doing a Skydive to raise funds for The Bubble Foundation.

I chose to raise funds for the Bubble Foundation because of how amazing they were in giving my niece a chance to live a normal life.

My niece, Eliza-Jayne was born with SCID (Severe combined immunodeficiency). SCID is a group of rare disorders caused by mutations in different genes involved in the development and function of infection-fighting immune cells. Infants with SCID appear healthy at birth but are highly susceptible to severe infections. The condition is fatal, usually within the first year or two of life, unless infants receive immune-restoring treatments, such as transplants of blood-forming stem cells, gene therapy, or enzyme therapy.

Eliza and her Mum spent the first 6 months of her life in a sterile room which is referred to as a ‘bubble’. This was in Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle a long way from home and away from her Dad and Big Brother. This was a crucial time in her life where Eliza should of been bonding with family, instead she was undergoing conditioning with chemotherapy whilst waiting  for a lifesaving bone marrow transplant.

Because of the care and experience of all the staff on the bubble foundation ward Eliza is enjoying her life as a normal little girl and will soon be celebrating her 2nd birthday. Without the care and treatments she may not have made it passed her 1st birthday.

So whatever you can give us greatly appreciated💙
