Katie & Jasmine take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks! · 12 May 2022

By providing shelter, safety and support, we get women and their families off the streets of Athens and empower them to begin to recover from trauma and rebuild their lives. Through our free shop, community space and case workers, our work significantly improves the lives of displaced people.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

This Thursday (5th May), Katie & Jasmine will each be walking 21 miles in a day with 12kg-weighted backpacks to raise money for CRIBS International.

Why 21 miles? We will be walking 21 miles to match the width of the English Channel - a crossing which 4,500 refugees have made so far this year.

Why 12kg? This is the average weight of a toddler. The journeys made by refugees are forcibly lengthy, difficult and dangerous. We want to pay homage to those who are not only undertaking these journeys themselves, but on behalf of and whilst looking after their children, too. 12% refugees worldwide are aged 0-4 and it's estimated that 1 in 10 refugee women are pregnant.

Why CRIBS? CRIBS provides homes in Greece for pregnant refugee women and families with new babies, paying the bills for apartments and running a free shop in Athens so that families are able restore dignity and safety into their lives. However, rising living costs are making it increasingly difficult to support these families in Athens - last year, CRIBS spent over £20,000 on electricity and water bills alone. As such, CRIBS are increasingly in need of funding and all donations directly support families in need.

Whilst this walk will undoubtedly be a challenge for us both, it is tiny in comparison to the scale of the refugee crisis today. Nonetheless, we hope that our walk will raise awareness about the amazing work of CRIBS International (CRIBS International – Care for Refugee Interim Baby Shelter) and inspire any donations - big or small - that will have an immediate impact supporting young families to rebuild their lives. Hopefully together we can make 'baby steps' towards making the world a safer place for refugees ❤️
