Story

I got a message about 3 weeks or so ago asking if I'd do Strictly Manx. I'm both crazy and stupid so I obviously said yes. I figured that it's for charity and every so often, you should try things out of your comfort zone. Okay so that's a little bit of an understatement - It's so far out of my normal realm that I may as well be on another planet. I knew what people were going to say as soon as they found out, but hey, everyone likes a laugh and it's sold a few tickets!

I've chosen Parent2Parent because I think it's a very worthwhile charity. They offer support and guidance to parents of children going through difficulties with depression and mental health issues. Without going into too much detail, I look back sometimes and I can't imagine what it must have been like for my parents when dealing with the issues I faced in high school. It isn't just the children who need the support, parents need it too.

I think it's going relatively well so far. Let's just not mention the d word.

Dungarees. They'd look great on the dance floor....

Please give generously.

Parent2Parent is a local registered Isle Of Man Charity, founded by local mums who have experienced their own difficulties in dealing with teenagers struggling from Anxiety and Depression. Finding support or talking to like minded parents at a time of need is invaluable. Unfortunately there is very little support here on the Isle of Man for the parents of teenagers struggling with mental health issues. We are currently working closely with CAMHS and the mental health promotions team here on the Island. Our aim is to eventually provide a “Support Unit", open 24hours, 365 days a year! the Unit will be used as an Anxiety Retreat especially for parents and teenagers, a safe haven when things get tough and we hope to offer therapies such as Mindfulness, CBT etc all free of charge wherever possible to those who need it. We are currently running successful Support Groups every other week where parents can come along, have a coffee and a chat with like minded parents. If we were to have our own Unit we could offer weekly meetings together with a private comfortable space for one to one support.
