Mission Rabies · 11 April 2014

At Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) we champion animal welfare around the world and create sustainable change. We send vets where they are needed most, provide expert veterinary training in hard-to-reach places, and ship urgent aid supplies worldwide, every day of the year.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 11th April I will be going to Goa in India to work with the Worldwide Veterinary Service on their Mission Rabies project. Across the world 100 children die from rabies every day, the Mission Rabies project is going to change that.

Vaccinating dogs against rabies has been proven to stop the spread of the disease to people and saves the lives of humans and dogs. The ultimate aim is to eradicate rabies from the world by 2030.

The programme was launched in September 2013 in the rabies hotspot of the world - India - where a third of all deaths are reported to occur. Over 60, 000 dogs in 12 rabies hotspots were vaccinated in just 28 days, but that was just the beginning... over the next three years the aim is to vaccinate 2 million dogs across India. The project also runs surgical training courses for local vets to promote neutering, whilst also educating  local communities on rabies.

Your donations will be greatly appreciated. Eradicating rabies from the world would be an incredible achievement - and you will be helping to make that possible.
