Katie Piner is raising money for John Hartson Foundation

Team: Remembering Donna Garrick

In memory of Donna Garrick

Inspired by the former Wales striker’s own battle against testicular cancer, the John Hartson Foundation aims to increase awareness of the disease and raise much-needed funds to support those whose lives are affected by cancer. Men, women, children and families. So please, give what you can afford.

Story

The picture above shows my cousin's fiance Alison, my cousin Donna (the police lady) and me celebrating Donna's 18th birthday.  This was pretty much like any other 18th birthday with lots of laughter and lots of drink!!! What you wouldn't guess from this photo is that my very brave cousin Donna had spent her teenage years battling cancer.  Not only was Donna busy beating her illness, she was also busy achieving extremely impressive exam grades, developing her skill as a very talented artist and practising away to become a very keen musician.  Sadly, this impressive, talented and extremely kind and thoughtful young lady lost her battle with her illness in 2010 at the age of 22.

My cousin Bryan (who bravely supported Donna throughout her illness) and I have chosen to take part in the BraveHart Challenge to support the John Hartson Foundation.  In particular this charity aims to support people with cancer and their families – a very worthy cause I think you’d all agree.
