Edinburgh Marathon Festival Full Marathon 2016 · 29 May 2016 ·
Hi and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
It has always been on my bucket list to run a marathon at some point in my life. There are so many amazing worthy causes to support, but until now - there hasn't been one that has truly motivated me to get a place, start training and fulfil this ambition.
After 28 years of unexplained symptoms, illnesses, health problems and inconclusive tests, thankfully I noticed Coeliac UK's campaign for Coeliac Awareness Week. In May 2015 I was officially diagnosed with the disorder - this was a huge turning point in my life.
Coeliac Disease is a lifelong autoimmune disease. Gluten - which is found in wheat, barley and rye - triggers an immune reaction in people with Coeliac Disease. This means that eating gluten damages the lining of the small intestine. Untreated coeliac can have serious consequences and has links with other diseases like osteoporosis, diabetes and bowel cancer.
I owe my new found health to this charity and I'm willing to do as much as I can to raise money for them as words simply cannot describe how much they have supported me since my diagnosis. I used to be so embarrassed about my past problems, but now I don't mind sharing my story with the world if it means I could potentially help someone else.
I have never ran a marathon before - but I am dedicating 4 months of my life to train for it!
Please sponsor me!! It will help me through the frosty/rainy nights training and make it all worthwhile. I want to run through the finish line feeling like I have accomplished something positive after all the years of hell I went through to get my diagnosis. I want to absolutely smash my target and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!
