Story

5 April 09

Sadly I am now no longer to run this marathon as I have damaged my ankle joint, although at this stage no one can tell me what is wrong.  I am waiting for an appointment to see a foot specialist who will, I hope, be able to shed some light on my injury, however I have potentially a 12 week wait for this appointment, so sadly running is strictly banned!  Im sorry to all of you who have sponsored me, however I promise that once I am fully fit I WILL run in another marathon.

Katie x

You've all no doubt by now heard about my fabulous weekend away to the Isles of Scily with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to suppport the 130 runners who were taking part in the Tresco Marathon for the Trust.  I enjoyed the weekend so much and am keen to return in 2009; so to ensure my trip over there I've had to take the drastic measure of signing up to run 7 1/2 laps of the island with 4 hills on each lap to complete 26.2 miles.

I will off course be running for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust; for the un initiated amongst you Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease affecting over 8,000 people in the UK.  Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene that causes CF - around 1 in 25 of the population; if two carriers have a child, the baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.  Each week, five babies are born with CF and three young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis.  Average life expectancy is around 31 years, although improvements in treatments mean a baby born today could expect to live for longer.

This will be my first marathon so please donate, donate, donate!  Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cystic Fibrosis Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!  Every little helps.......Katie x :)
