Story
Most of you already know that my beloved dad passed away in 2011. 1st October 2021 marks the 10 year anniversary.
10 years of missing him so much it hurts, 10 years wishing for one more moment, one more hug and kiss, one more funny story, one more phone call. 10 years of thinking of him daily and wanting to continuously tell his story.
One of the hardest things to bear is that after the initial loss, and then the funeral, is that life in the world around you ultimately goes on regardless of your feeing of loss. It’s like a train continuously speeding through stations, no time to stop and take a breather, no time to stop and reflect.
When you lose someone you want to stop, to hold onto the memories, you talk about them and how you feel in that moment.
After 10 years of losing my Dad I still feel the same, this niggling pain that never leaves you, the yearn to look for him in a crowd, the need to say his name daily.
The only thing that eases the pain is the ability to talk, to talk about Dad, remember his lovely ways, his intellect, his humor, his heart. With this in mind I have decided to walk/run 10 miles every day from 26th August until his anniversary on 1st October, 37 days, to raise funds for British Lung foundation. During each walk I will be reflecting on my wonderful Dads life and hopefully raising funds for the brilliant British Lung foundation.
The significance of 37 days is that I was 37 years old when my Dad passed away 💙
