Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am shaving my head on the 1st of March 2021 to raise money and awareness for Cardiomyopathy UK. This charity is very important to me and my family. My mum was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy a while ago and ever since has been in and out of hospital. In December 2016 she underwent a huge heart operation (12.5 hours) to save her life after she contracted sepsis and endocarditis.. She has overcome many struggles and continues to be the fighter she is!

All hair will be donated to The Princess Trust which will turn my hair into a wig(s) for young people suffering with Cancer.

What is Dilated Cardiomyopathy?

The ventricles are the lower chambers of the heart, which receive blood from the atria above and pump it to the lungs, and to the rest of the body. The walls of both ventricles are thick and muscular. However, the wall of the left ventricle is thicker than the right as it is the main pumping chamber: pumping blood at high pressure to all areas of the body. In DCM, the left ventricle becomes stretched and enlarged. The walls of the ventricle become thinner and can appear ‘baggy’. This gives the heart a rounded or spherical shape, rather than its usual ‘cone’ shape. The thinner walls are weakened, and so are not able to contract or ‘squeeze’ as normal. This makes the heart less effective at pumping blood out.

The Little Princess Trust:

The Little Princess Trust provides free, real-hair wigs for young cancer sufferers or for children and young people experiencing the devastating effects of hair loss. We also fund pioneering, life-saving research into childhood cancers. We use hair donations and fundraising monies sent to us by our amazing supporters, to manufacture and fit our beautiful real hair wigs. Established in 2006, we have supplied over 8000 wigs to children and young people and have invested circa £5 million into ground-breaking childhood cancer research.
