Look Sussex supports families with visual impairments and additional needs. Our aim is to support our families by bringing everyone together, sharing experiences, making new friends and generally having a nice time together. We hold regular free events and have a weekly (term time) Youth Club too.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are taking part in tough mudder 15k for Look Sussex. Look Sussex  is a small local charity, they support families across East and West Sussex who have a child who is blind or visually impaired.

They are an active charity offering free events almost every month of the year, for the whole family.

The charity trustees all work completely voluntarily, in their spare time and are all parents of a Visually Impaired children, we are all very passionate about the services we provide.

We know that most children diagnosed with a visual impairment (VI) attend mainstream school and therefore have very little, or no contact, with other VI children and this, often results in them feeling very much isolated and parents’ can also feel this way.

Ruby is 12 years old and the support Look sussex has given us since Ruby was diagnosed with colobomia and microphalmia is nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately ruby had no retina in the left eye so she is blind in one eye and because she has colobomia in her right eye she can see up to 6 feet but has no peripheral vision only tunnel vision. Ruby relies on large print to read books or equipment to enlarge words. Ruby attends mainstream school and is doing incredibly well, and with the help and support from look sussex she is able to help others with her own experience they help all the children.

We want to help look sussex by raising money so the children can continue to enjoy fun outings and activities, for our  impaired children and their families, throughout the year, so that they can come together, share experiences, provide valuable advice to one another, whilst establishing relationships. The children can make friends and realise they are not alone and the parents are able to network and provide great support to one another.

Please this is an amazing charity and without your help they wouldn’t be able to continue to help the families they do today.
