Story
Every birthday I participate in a challenge to raise money for charity. A big birthday this year means a big challenge!
This year, I'm taking part in the London Landmarks Skyscraper Challenge, to support the work of the MS Society.
The MS Society is very close to my heart. My health condition, Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) anti-MOG, is treated as part of the MS family; one of my paternal aunties has MS, and many of my clients at Hummingbird Holistic Therapies live with this dignity and independence robbing condition.
Because MS is so unpredictable I am taking on this challenge to prove to myself that even though my body may not work how I need it to, it is still capable of so much. My condition is stable at the moment, thanks to the treatments developed within the field of MS.
MS affects your brain and spinal cord. In MS, the coating that protects your nerves (myelin) is damaged and often continues to degenerate. This causes a range of symptoms like blurred vision and sight-loss, and problems with movement and muscle weakness. It can also cause brain fog, pain, muscle spasms, fatigue, and much more.
Around 130,000 people in the UK have MS. Once diagnosed, MS stays with you for life, but treatments and specialists can help to manage the condition and its symptoms. The MS Society is here to help everyone live well with MS.
