Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I am running the 2018 London Marathon in honour of my dad, David Michael Strage.
FACT: Brain tumours are the #1 cancer killer in adults and children under the age of 40. Yet, in the UK, where I grew up, they only receive 1% of the National Cancer Research Funds.
MY STORY: At 4 years old my father was diagnosed with a Grade IV anaplastic astocytoma, diffused in his brain stem. A tumour that is more commonly found in children and rarely found in adults, with an extremely poor diagnosis as an adult. He was just 36 years old with 3 young children. His original prognosis was 6 months, however through the tireless efforts of his doctors and the relentless trials and research focused towards his brain tumour, he survived through 6 great years before he ultimately passed away. The 6 years I had with my dad after his diagnosis allowed me to become of an age where I could really begin to know him and most importantly remember him. This was made possible by breaking edge advancements in brain tumour research. It is for this reason that I owe the memories I have with my father to organizations such as this that bring awareness and funding to such cancers.
I am beyond honoured to be able to serve as an ambassador for this
organization, to raise awareness and much needed funding for this disease. I will be running this 26.2 miles in honour of my dad and all those affected by this disease.
I truly appreciate all the donations and hope that together we can raise awareness and funding for this horrible disease, in the hopes that one day no-one will lose a loved one to a brain tumour.
