In July 2021, after having three strokes my lovely Mum (Rosie) was diagnosed with vascular dementia.  More recently after having vivid hallucinations she was diagnosed with a mixed picture of Vascular Dementia mixed with Lewy Body Dementia…

Anyone who has experienced Dementia will understand just how heartbreaking 💔 it is to watch your loved one change beyond recognition and become so dependent and vulnerable, but much more than that, just how terrifying it must be for the people with this horrible illness..

There is a misconception that people with Dementia don’t understand what is happening or are unaware that they are ill and are “happy in their own world”..  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  Dementia not only takes away someone’s dignity it also robs them of their most treasured memories, mistaking people for someone else or in Mum’s case seeing 10 elephants in the room - how scary must that be 🥲🥲…There are also still times of real clarity, where the person knows something isn’t right and is so confused and very scared and definitely realises something has changed but doesn’t know what 😟…

During the last eight months we have really struggled to manage Mum’s illness at home and last month we had to make the very difficult decision to put her into a care home.  Something I never thought I would do and have really struggled to accept.  However we found Meadowview and immediately felt at ease.  The Manager reassured us immediately and has continued to update me daily on Mums progress. The team have managed to review her medication and she is now sleeping better and she looks happy when I visit her daily.  For the first time in three years it is so lovely spending time with Mum as her Daughter and not her carer.  I cannot thank the amazing staff at Meadowview enough, as they have all gone that extra mile to help settle Mum in and I have so much adoration and appreciation for the amazing work and kindness they shown to Mum and everyone there. I couldn’t recommend Meadowview enough..

So I am raising money to help Dementia UK continue with their amazing work for my Mum and for everyone who has ever had to go through this.. I want to help raise awareness and a better understanding of this horrible disease, which one in three people will experience in their lifetime.
