Tiny Lives is a charitable trust that helps to care for 800+ premature and sick newborn babies and their families each year. It supports the Newcastle Neonatal Service at Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary that cares for babies from across the North East and Cumbria.

Story

In September I will be taking part in my first ever Great North Run!

I am running for Tiny Lives who support the Special Care Baby Unit at the RVI.

As most of you will know Joey was born on the 25th August 2011 at 37+1 weeks, weighing 5lb 5oz. Due to low blood sugar Joey had to spend some time in SCBU.

Thankfully Joey was only in special care for 3 days, however the support we received in those 3 days was incredible. I want to give something back to Tiny Lives.

Where would money be spent?

Tiny Lives supports the highly specialist car provided by both neonatal intensive care (NICU) and special care baby unit (SCBU) faciities,

£1000 would provide Incubator heat pads that ensure a controlled environment and a vital heat source in the first critical days and weeks of a pre term babys time on the intensive care ward as maintaining a stable temperature and preventing a drop in blood sugar is vital in premature babies

£85 would provide developmental care items that provide the best environment and facilities for sick and premature babies. Developmental aids included Freddy Frog, a versatiles frog shaped beanbag positioning aid designed to help supportive positioning in premature babies.

£10 would allow Tiny Lives to provide special romper suits for premature babies on ward 35. These romper suits make it easier for staff to attach monitors/drips to the babies as thy have openings at the shoulders and legs and makes dressing the babies so much easier.

Just £1 buys a baby Journal, which are for parents to record a very personal and private diary of their childs first weeks and months as they move through the SCBU.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your support.
