Kayak the Great Glen 2019
Campaign by Back Up (RCN 1072216)
Back Up's Kayak the Great Glen is back for 2019 - help us raise £15,000 to support people affected by spinal cord injury.

Story

So, Daz and I finished the challenge. We passed the capsize drill, and completed 4 days of paddling and camping. We met some great people on the way with some amazing stories of over coming adversity. We were fed like kings every day, we took in the best scenery in the world and we drank a few single malts on top.

Thanks to Daz for the chaperone.
Thank you to everybody who donated.
Thank you , Thank you.

Tony.

Hello. My name is Tony. Most of you reading this know me, but if you don't and are reading this, here's a little background. Nearly nine years ago I had a motor bike accident that left me paralysed with a (T6) SCI, (spinal cord injury).

In that time I have received a lot of support and help from family, friends, specialists and orgs including Back-Up, a charity that aims to help the lives of others in my predicament or similar.

After an SCI, you are grateful for help and support from wherever it comes and in the very early years you accept the help and quite often never say thank you. Mainly because you're just busy being scared. So after a long time of accepting help and good will from others, it's time to repay some of the debt.

My brother Daz and I  are going to take part in a charity kayak trip with Back-Up in an attempt to raise some money to help them transform lives of other people also affected by an SCI.

Here is what we're doing. We will spend 4 full days kayaking from Fort William on the west coast of Scotland, to Inverness in the east. The trail covers a total of 60 miles, including 22 miles of canal and 4 natural freshwater lochs, and Loch Ness. We will be travelling in a double kayak with one wheelchair user (myself) in the front accompanied by an able-bodied companion (Daz my Brother), crossing lochs, negotiating the water and weather, and staying in campsites along the route.

We have a group target, amongst all those participating, of raising £15,000 between us, to support Back Up. Of that, Daz and myself have a target of £2,500. The money will be used to help transform the lives of people affected by spinal cord injury across the UK.

A huge thanks to my brother Daz who has foolishly agreed to put in a long shift at the back.

I would be super grateful if you would contribute a small amount to help Daz and myself reach our target.

Thanks to all of you.

Tony and Daz.
