Team: Kayak The Thames 2022

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Parkinson's disease is a condition affecting the brain, causing problems like uncontrollable shaking and stiffness that gets worse over time.

Caused by a loss of nerve cells in part of the brain, treatments include medicines, movement therapy and, sometimes, brain surgery. as the disease progresses, sufferers may have difficulty walking and talking.

Abbie's Dad, Paul, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2012, but it hasn't stopped him living life to the full, running the Swindon Half Marathon to raise money for Parkinson's research in under 2.5 hours.

As well as being Abbie's Dad, Paul is a long standing family friend and a well known and much loved member of the local community.
