Story
Kay has spent her entire life helping those around her, and was always one to put the needs of others first, so when she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma back in 2008 it came as a devastating blow.
Being faced with this life changing news, Kay never changed who she was, in fact it compelled her to strive to help others even more than she had before.
As Kay's children, we have been incredibly lucky to have spent as long as we have with her, after her first diagnosis. According to the statistics, just over half of myeloma patients will live for at least five years and a third will live for at least 10 years.
Although myeloma is highly treatable in the majority of patients, it is currently an incurable cancer. Kay had fought incredibly hard over the last few years following her remission battling against this horrible disease, undergoing gruelling treatments of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, stem cell transplant, and a barrage of endless toxic drugs on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, myeloma rips through your bones with unbelievable pain, and after a difficult period of intense chemotherapy treatment, Kay spent the best part of the last three years immobile, barely able to walk, feed herself or get about without causing huge discomfort to herself.
As much pain as Kay was in, she always thought of others, ensuring there was enough food to cater for visiting family and friends, gifts for her grandchildren whom she enjoyed immensely, but also a shoulder for support to those closest to her.
As cruel as this disease is, we are eternally grateful for the time and experiences that we have had with Kay, she was our anchor, and we're blessed to have had such an incredible, kind and thoughtful woman as our mother. We hope that you can help us to raise money to support and increase the life expectancy of other myeloma patients so they too can enjoy the time they have to the fullest, as time is the only currency we can never get back.
Any help you are able to provide makes a difference, and every pound, penny, dollar or euro counts.
Thank you so much for all your support and love.
