Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

At the start of the year my company chairman was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and on the 10th September myself, Mark Williams and Dan Doel will be walking 25km Round the mountains in Canada to coincide with the Thames Bridge Trek for Motor Neurone Disease Association.  Blake Emergency Services and friends have a team walking the Thames Bridge Trek.

The Round the Mountain Trail is one of the longer hiking routes in the Kimberley area The trail sets out from the Kimberley Alpine Resort, and works around the lower slopes of North Star Hill in a counterclockwise direction. The initial stretch of trail will see us hike through the forest and cross over several small creeks before reaching the northernmost point of the route and following it around the backside of the mountain.

MNDA are a wonderful group of people who support people with MND, as well as their families, and who are working hard to find a cure for this disease.

MND gradually stops messages from the motor neurones reaching the muscles causing them to weaken and waste. This life limiting disease affects people in different ways – it can affect how you talk, walk, eat, drink and even breath. Not all symptoms affect everyone with MND, the order of the symptoms is not predictable, nor is the speed, all of which makes the course of the disease difficult to predict

This cruel disease affects 1 in every 50,000 in the UK each year so people, doctors and researchers are trying to learn more about it and hopefully one day find a cure.
